Running Pace & Race Finish Time Mathematics
Running pace calculator computes pace per mile/km, speed, and predicted race finish times for 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon distances.
Pace is your total time divided by distance covered, expressed as minutes per kilometer or minutes per mile. Speed is the inverse β distance divided by time β expressed as km/h or mph.
- 1Enter the distance covered and the total elapsed time.
- 2View pace per kilometer, pace per mile, and speed in km/h and mph.
A runner covers 10 kilometers in 48 minutes and 30 seconds (2,910 seconds total).
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Pace = Total Time Γ· Distance. For example, running 10 kilometers in 50 minutes equals a pace of 5:00 minutes per kilometer (or 8:03 min/mile).
Use the Riegel formula: Marathon Time = 5K Time Γ (42.195 / 5)^1.06. This accounts for endurance pace fade over the longer distance β it's an estimate, not a guarantee, since marathon performance also depends on training-specific endurance.
